The Brief
This album cover was a class assignment exploring surreal composition and mood. The piece places a lone figure suspended mid-fall over a dark, turbulent ocean, lit only by the cold glow of a crescent moon above. A textured overlay of rain droplets stretches across the entire frame, creating the illusion of looking through a wet window at the scene below. The palette stays restrained — near-black skies, warm amber reflections on the water, and the pale gray of the moon — letting the surreal imagery and the rain texture carry the emotional weight. The result is a cover that feels both intimate and cinematic, as if the music inside were already playing in the image.
Process
- 01Composited the central figure over a dark ocean scene, positioning the crescent moon as the primary light source.
- 02Built a rain-droplet overlay texture to give the entire frame a wet-glass quality, adding depth and atmosphere.
- 03Restrained the palette to near-black, amber, and pale gray so the surreal imagery carries the mood without color competing.
